Factsheet | LHE® Laser Hair Removal
Why do we get unwanted hair growth? Unwanted hair growth is associated with age, but also skin types and colouring. Many people have hair growth in places they do not want it, but in some people, the colouring and fineness of the hair means it doesn’t show. |
What is LHE® Hair Removal? LHE Hair Removal is a method of removing unwanted hair from various parts of the body using Light Heat Energy. The light energy destroys the hair so it falls out within a few weeks. |
How does LHE® Hair Removal work? It is a procedure which uses a pulse-laser to send a particular wave-length of light into the skin. It is delivered from a hand piece and will cover a small area of the skin at a time. The treatment involves a series of short exposures over the area of skin being treated. The light is designed to pass through the pale skin and to be absorbed by the darker pigment in the hair shaft. The hairs then die and individual hairs shrivel and fall out over the coming weeks. |
What can LHE® Hair Removal be used for? LHE® Hair Removal can be used for removing hair on virtually any part of the body. Most commonly it is used on the face, underarms, arms, legs, bikini line, chest and the back. |
Who is LHE® Hair Removal suitable for? Both men and women of any age can benefit from the treatment. Because the treatment uses lasers which rely on the different pigment in the hair compared to the skin, it is most successful in people with pale skin and dark, thick hair. Your practitioner will advise you on the suitability of your skin and hair colour. |
What happens during the treatment? A hand piece containing a LHE® light source is moved slowly over the treatment area and the LHE light is pulsed over each section of skin. Repeat treatments are usually required. |
How long does treatment take? It depends on the size and density of the hair in the area being treated. |
Is it painful? A local anaesthetic is not required. Most people only experience mild discomfort. There is sometimes a slight swelling and redness straight after treatment, which settles within a few hours. |
When will I notice a difference? The hair may begin to fall out in a few days and will take a few weeks to complete the process. Bear in mind that the treatment only affects hair which is in its growing phase, so repeat treatments will be required. |
How long will the effects last? In some cases the effect is permanent, although this is not true for everybody. Some patients require ‘top-ups’ a couple of times a year. |
How many times can I have Laser Hair Removal? There is no limit to the number of treatments you can have. A complete course of treatments will normally consist of 5-6 sessions depending on the area being treated. Repeat treatments are normally carried out every 5-7 weeks. Once the course is complete, you may need top-up treatments a couple of times a year to keep hair growth to a minimum. |
What happens Pre and Post-Treatment? You will need to complete a medical questionnaire to ensure there are no You will normally be able to return to your usual daily activities after treatment. |
Are there any adverse effects? During treatment you may experience an itching sensation. Following treatment there may be some redness and small bumps around the treated area, but these will disappear within a few days. In rare cases there may be some localised bruising, scabbing and discolouring of the skin. This is usually temporary. |
