Acne is a common skin disorder characterised by clogged pores and spots. Although acne is rarely a serious medical condition, it often causes emotional distress and can lead to scarring of the skin. With the right treatment, you can often keep acne under control. With many years experience in dermatology, our Nurse Specialist understands the emotional distress caused by acne and acne scars.

Acne Phototherapy helps to destroy the acne bacteria that cause infection and which lead to the formation of spots.

During the procedure, pulses of intense light are delivered through the skin through very specific filters. As the whole face is usually treated the bacteria are killed over a wide area reducing breakouts and stopping the infection spreading.

The formation of large amounts of new collagen below and around the spots gives a huge boost the healing process, causing spots to disappear with the decreased likelihood of acne scars developing.

Microdermabrasion and The Innovation Concept (ICP) Peel ®are other alternatives that may be considered.

Who is Acne Phototherapy suitable for?

Subject to initial medical screening, both men and women of any age can benefit from the treatment, although for legal reasons we are unable to treat persons under the age of 18 with Acne Phototherapy. You should NOT have treatment if you are pregnant, breast-feeding or if you suffer from epilepsy. You should also NOT have treatment if you have used the anti-acne treatment Isotretinoin (brand name Roaccutane®) within the last 12 months.

How long does an Acne Phototherapy treatment take?

A single Acne Phototherapy treatment normally takes around thirty minutes. Unlike laser treatments, discomfort from Acne Phototherapy is minimal to non-existent. Redness may occur, but this is temporary. Event after one treatment, most clients notice an improvement in their skin. Improvements will become more evident with every treatment.
